The mission of KIPP Excelencia Community Prep is to inspire and empower all children so that they are successful through college and impact their communities.
Mrs. Coughenour is honored to serve as the Principal of KIPP Excelencia Community Prep. In 2015, Mrs. Coughenour joined the founding team at Excelencia as the Instructional Dean and worked to set the instructional vision for math in the school’s first two years. She also served as the Assistant Principal of the Upper School during the 2016-17 school year. Mrs. Coughenour joined KIPP in 2008 as a founding Kindergarten Math teacher at KIPP DC: LEAP Academy in Washington, DC. She taught kindergarten for two years and served as the Grade Level Chair. In 2010, Mrs. Coughenour completed the leadership team strand of the KIPP School Leadership Programs and moved into the role of Vice Principal at KIPP DC: Promise Academy. During this time, she also developed new teachers as a Seminar Leader for the New Teacher Project’s Teaching for Results certification course. Liz has also served for three years as a Content Specialist with Teach for America. Mrs. Coughenour began her career in education as a Teach for America corps member in Washington, DC, where she taught first grade for two years at Friendship Public Charter School. Mrs. Coughenour graduated from Northwestern University with a B.A. in Psychology. She also holds a Masters in the Art of Teaching from American University in Washington, DC.Outside of school, Mrs. Coughenour enjoys spending time in the outdoors with her husband and young son. KIPP Excelencia Community Prep is a TK-8 public charter school located in Redwood City that opened its doors in summer 2015. The school began with transitional kindergarten (TK), kindergarten, first, and fourth grade and adds an additional grade each year until it is serving transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. KIPP Excelencia is currently co-located at Hoover and Taft Elementary Schools for the 2018-2019 school year. Our address at Hoover is 656 Laurel St. & Taft is 954 8th Ave.
