![]() Mission: The mission of KIPP King Collegiate High School is to prepare our students to live inspired and ethical lives by developing within them extraordinary academic skills, a life-long passion for learning, and the resolve to change their own lives and the world around them through acts of excellence, justice, humanity, and courage. History: KIPP King Collegiate High School opened in the fall of 2007, and as the first KIPP high school on the west coast it will establish the gold standard for providing a superior, college preparatory, public high school education to a low-income community. Every student at KIPP King will take AP courses. Every student will meet the California A-G requirements and qualify to apply to UC schools. Upon graduation, all students will have the wisdom, habits of mind, and commitment of heart to be change agents in the communities they serve. King Collegiate will eventually serve 400 students from Oakland and San Lorenzo Unified School District and is on track to emerge as the highest performing high school in San Lorenzo Unified School District and a model for a college preparatory high school committed to ensuring that 100% of its students gain acceptance to a four-year college. Test scores for the first year of King Collegiate will be available in August 2008. Principal:
Jason Singer, the founding principal of KIPP King Collegiate, began his career in education as a teacher and member of the Mississippi Teacher Corps. In only his second year of teaching, Mr. Singer was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1995 by the Mississippi Economic Council and Greenwood Public Schools. After this, Mr. Singer served as Co-Founder and Executive Director of Communities in Harmony Advocating for Learning and Kids (CHALK), a nationally recognized non-profit organization that empowers youth through innovative high-tech employment programs. Mr. Singer was also Co-Founder and Vice President of Business Development for FairAir, a market exchange for airline tickets founded in 2000. In 2002, Mr. Singer was awarded the prestigious Fisher Fellowship and given the opportunity to open KIPP Summit Academy in San Lorenzo, CA. KIPP Summit Academy has become the highest performing middle school in San Lorenzo and the only school in the District to achieve an API over 800 despite opening with one of the lowest performing student bodies in the District. In 2006, Mr. Singer was awarded a Gates Fellowship and given the opportunity to open KIPP King Collegiate High School. Mr. Singer received a B.A. in English and World Literature from Pitzer College in Claremont, CA. He then spent a year doing post-undergraduate study as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad. Mr. Singer completed his Masters in Secondary Education at the University of Mississippi. Contact:
