KIPP Summit Academy fosters within its students the desire, discipline, and dedication necessary for success in college and beyond.

Electives at KIPP Summit Academy

Auto-CAD

This elective is a hands-on computer course introducing Auto-CAD to students with an interest in 3D drawing and engineering. Students will design everything from jewelry to bridges to skate parks and will use what they have learned to compete in the 2010 Tech Challenge in the Spring. Students can also participate in the Mouse Squad, helping to provide technology set-up and help around the school.

Green Team

The Green Team will focus on helping our school make choices that reduce, minimize, or even attempt to reverse the negative impact of our actions on the earth and its resources. Students will create and implement a recycling program, focus on campus clean-up, and educate our community about ways in which we can make a difference.

Puzzles & Poems

Two electives in one! Once a week, students will use logic to solve various brain teasers, challenges, and puzzles. The other session will be focused on haikus, limericks, sonnets, and more – students will learn about and write various kinds of poetry.

Band

Be a part of KSA’s very first band! Choose from a variety of instruments: flute, trumpet, clarinet, drums, saxophone, and more. Students will learn instrument basics and will play a variety of music from all over the world. NOTE: Students must provide their own instrument. If interested, information on renting various instruments will be available.

Yoga

Yoga education is knowing you have the ability to choose the positive path of health by shifting yourself from imbalance to balance, stressed to centered, or angry to calm anytime you choose. Numerous scientific studies show this enhances and improves focus, concentration, creativity, responsible behavior and academic achievement. Plus, it’s really fun!

Garden

Members of this elective will be responsible for prepping, planting, caring for, and harvesting the various crops in the garden. In addition, students will learn about nutrition, healthy eating, and sustainable farming, among other topics.

Yearbook

The students in the yearbook elective will help to capture the uniqueness of our school.  Members will design pages for each grade, and will also create pages for the different school-wide events, student groups, and sporting events that happen throughout the school year. Writers, editors, artists, and photographers wanted to help KSA capture memories from the 2009-2010 school year!

Study Hall

Want more time at home to spend with your friends and family? Is homework taking up too much time after your already-long day? The study hall elective is for students who want a quiet environment to get a jump-start on the homework and stay on top of their studies.
