Jason Singer | Principal
Jason Singer, a graduate of Pitzer College in Southern California, began teaching in the Greenwood Public Schools in Greenwood, Mississippi where he taught 10th and 11th grade English. While teaching in Mississippi, Singer was named “Teacher of the Year” in the Greenwood Public School District and earned his M.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Mississippi. In 1996, Singer Co-Founded and served as Executive Director of CHALK, a nationally recognized non-profit empowering youth through innovative high-tech employment programs. In 2002, Singer founded KIPP Summit Academy, a college preparatory middle school for low income, underserved students. . KIPP Summit Academy has been the highest performing middle school in San Lorenzo and is also the first school in the District to achieve an API over 800. In 2006, Singer became the first founding principal of two KIPP schools. Singer received a Gates Fellowship to open KIPP King Collegiate High School, the highest performing high school in SLZUSD. Based on their performance on STAR exams, King ranks in the top 10% of all high schools statewide.
Singer is also the proud father of two adorable boys, Aidan and Noah, and the husband of the incredibly patient and supportive Cindy Zedeck. Singer’s greatest passion is kids – first his own and then his KIPP students.
