Expansion to Begin on Charter School in San Lorenzo | San Leandro Times | February 2, 2012
From KIPP Bay Area Schools:
Announcement: May 27, 2010
There will be a community meeting on June 2 from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the lunchroom at KIPP King Collegiate.
Update: April 23, 2010
We will be adding new portable buildings this summer.
While we continue to make progress toward beginning new construction, we will obviously need to add portable classrooms in order to accommodate our final year of growth. Therefore, this summer we will be adding five portable classrooms and placing them opposite of our existing portables at the back of the campus. Please see the attached sketch. There will be modest site work completed this summer in order to connect those new classrooms to power and water. We will be employing several safeguards during the public bid process such as pre-qualifying bidders to ensure that an experienced contractor is hired for the job. We commit to doing everything possible to control dust on the site and ensuring that our contractor begins and ends work consistent with County mandated hours of operation. Please feel free to reach out me if you have questions or concerns by calling the school number 510-317-2330.
Progress has been made toward new construction.
While we wait for more state bond sales to free up the money we need to complete new construction, we have achieved several important milestones that will allow us to be shovel ready when money is available. We hope to be able to break ground as early as this Fall. Over the past few months, KIPP Bay Area Schools as adopted the Mitigated Negative Declaration associated with our CEQA study, the Department of State Architects has begun formal review of our plans, we have been found fiscally sound by the State of California with regard to the ongoing costs of this project, and expect to have formal CDE approval for our expansion efforts by the end of May. Finally, in the meantime we are attempting to secure outside funding sources that would allow us to break ground prior to funding coming available from the state. As these final approvals are received and the timeline for new construction becomes more clear, we will provide further updates.
Update: November 16, 2009
We modified our campus design in response to community concerns, and have thus updated our CEQA environmental report to reflect the new campus design. The new public comment period for the CEQA review is November 3 – December 2, 2009. Hard copies of the full report, and amendment, are on file at the KIPP King Collegiate main office and the San Lorenzo Library’s reference desk. If you have any problems accessing the CEQA study, please reach out to Emily Rummo (firstname.lastname@example.org)
