Team Biographies

Judy Tang, Principal

Judy Tang became the Principal of the school in 2010. She received her B.A. in Psychology and Social Welfare at UC Berkeley, and immediately after graduation joined the 2006 Teach For America corps.  Then, she was placed at KIPP Heartwood Academy, where she taught 7th grade English for two years.  During Judy’s first year, 99% of her students were proficient or advanced on the California Standards Test and in her second year, 85% of her students were proficient oradvanced. After two years in the classroom, she participated in the KIPP School Leadership Program in preparation for a leadership role as the Dean of Instruction. After two years as the Dean of Instruction, she became the Principal of the school. Judy was born and raised in San Jose, CA.  In her free time she enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, reading, and spending time with her friends and family. She is thankful to have the opportunity to lead an extraordinary school of incredibly committed students, teachers, and parents.  Judy loves being a part of the KIPP team and family because she is constantly inspired by fellow pioneers in education, who are transforming the education system to ensure that every child is given the opportunity to succeed in college and beyond.
