The KIPP Bay Area Schools Alumni Scholarship Fund
This year, more than 300 eighth graders will graduate from five KIPP Bay Area middle schools. Some choose to continue their journey to college at KIPP King Collegiate or KIPP San Jose Collegiate. Others venture beyond KIPP to attend competitive college-preparatory high schools in the Bay Area and across the nation. Those who attend private or parochial schools need financial support.
Thanks to a groundbreaking challenge gift, the KIPP Bay Area Schools Scholarship Fund can meet this need. Awarded to eligible students, these customized grants combine with financial aid and family contribution to pay for tuition, fees, books, and transportation. Your contribution, matched dollar for dollar, will help make these students’ high school dreams a reality.

KIPP Bayview Academy Eighth Grader
Crystal Springs Uplands School, Class of 2013
“In fifth grade, I was trying to keep to myself. I started to change when I came to KIPP Bayview Academy. I started to open up to other people by being a leader in the classroom because here, it is okay to be one. For my elective as an eighth grader, I tutor fifth graders. I’m looking forward to Crystal Springs for the variety of classes they offer. I am ready for the new experiences, and I’m looking forward to taking the train every day with the other Crystal Springs students who went to KBA and live in Bayview, too.”

KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy Eighth Grader
Deerfield Academy, Class of 2013
“I wasn’t interested in Deerfield at first. But Ms. Mannix, our Director of High School Placement talked to me about it. Then I went to a summer program there for three weeks. I lived in the dorms and took classes with KIPPsters from around the country. I really liked it. I am looking forward to a new experience. I will miss the teachers from KIPP S.F. Bay the most. They’re more than teachers—they’re nice people to be around.”

KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy Eighth Grader
The Urban School of San Francisco, Class of 2013
“I came here from Taiwan in sixth grade without knowing any English. My parents think education is better here—there are so many more opportunities, especially at KIPP. When I visited Urban, I really liked the sense of community made up by teachers and students. On my shadow visit there, I saw students everywhere working together. I am looking forward most to becoming a part of that community."

KIPP Bridge Charter School Eighth Grader
International High School, Class of 2013
“Bridge has given me a place to learn and grow up. It has given me a family. The whole eighth grade is close. We practically grew up together. When I visited International, I liked that it was like KIPP. Everyone was talking about their work, but not like it was a class, like a normal conversation. I know it will be hard there, but I think I am well-prepared." |
