High School: The Next Step
Preparation and Placement
At KIPP Bay Area middle schools, high school placement staff research, develop relationships with, and present information about private day schools, boarding schools, parochial schools, charter schools, and city-wide magnet high schools. Beginning in seventh grade, students visit local schools to tour and learn about specific academic programs and scholarship opportunities. In the eighth grade, students and parents are guided through the high school placement process, which includes preparing for admissions tests, conducting mock interviews, writing admissions essays, and navigating financial aid.
KIPP Bay Area High Schools
In its 13 years of operation, the KIPP middle school program has earned a track record of success. Recently, the KIPP Foundation invested in training and supporting a group of high school principals from across the country to design excellent KIPP high schools placed in communities with a dearth of quality options.
To that end, KIPP King Collegiate opened in the fall of 2007 in San Lorenzo with 98 freshmen, more than 70 of whom are KIPP Bridge or KIPP Summit alumni. In the fall of 2008, the second Bay Area KIPP high school will open in East San Jose to best serve students in the South Bay.
