Mission & Vision | Misión y Visión

The mission of KIPP Bay Area Schools is to operate high-achieving public schools in educationally underserved communities, developing in our students the knowledge, skills, and character essential to thrive in college, shape their futures, and positively impact the world.

At KIPP East Side High School, we purposefully empower change agents to create the world we want to see and leave behind.  Love is in everything we do: we love ourselves, we love others, and we love our communities. Together in partnership, we courageously lean into challenges, learn from mistakes, and constantly examine our work to continue to grow.  In a rapidly changing global society, there are no boundaries for learning.

Students who attend high school with KIPP will also have access to college and career resources through our KIPP Through College program. KIPP Through College ensures that all students and alumni have the % of students who matriculate to college skills and resources they need to navigate to and through college into self-sufficient adulthood. Services include: financial literacy workshops and college savings accounts for all students; college advising for eleventh and twelfth graders; alumni advising for KIPPsters in college; and career readiness programming and support.

What is KIPP?

KIPP is a non-profit network of college-preparatory, public charter schools serving elementary, middle, and high school students. We have a 20-year track record of preparing our students in educationally underserved communities for success in college and life.

At KIPP, teachers, students, and families are all united around the same goal—college graduation. Through our collective hard work and commitment, KIPP students complete college at a rate that is above the national average for all students and four times higher than students of similar economic backgrounds.

Today, there are nearly 200 KIPP schools in 20 states and the District of Columbia serving nearly 70,000 students on their path to and through college.

What Makes KIPP Different

We believe that all students can learn and achieve at high levels if given the opportunity. Our success is driven by:

High Expectations

Clearly defined and measurable high expectations for academic achievement and conduct that creates and reinforces a culture of achievement and support. We know that every student is different and we personalize learning based on a student’s needs, skills, and interests.

Strength of Character

Success in life depends on more than academic learning. We help students foster character strengths that are essential for their own success. And we empower them to express their voice and improve the world around them.

Highly-Skilled Teachers and Leaders

Great schools require great teachers and school leaders. We empower our school teams and invest in leadership and training rather than in bureaucracy.

Safe & Structured Environments

Physical and emotional safety is needed for students to take risks and learn from their successes and their mistakes. Our schools provide a safe, structured, and nurturing environment with minimal distractions so our students love school and maximize their learning.

KIPP Through College

Our counselors and advisors support students as they prepare for and select the right college for their needs and interests. After high school, we help KIPP alumni navigate the social, academic, and financial challenges they might encounter while in college.
