Careers at KIPP King Collegiate:
Teacher
In the fall of 2007, KIPP King Collegiate opened its doors to 95 freshman in San Lorenzo.
Our school community is very close knit, and will grow with roughly 100 students per year
until we serve 400 in 2011-2012. One of the great hallmarks of King is the incredible skill
and dedication of the staff and our whole school engagement (students and staff alike) on
becoming better tomorrow than we are today. At King, great teachers are challenged and
supported in the process of growing their craft.
We are a high-performing college-prep charter high school serving a mixed community.
We have students commuting from throughout the East Bay with a primary focus on the
low income communities of Oakland and San Lorenzo. We have a formalized professional
learning community that actually works and is teacher driven, a world class writing
program based on the Toulmin model of argumentative writing, orchestra, art, and several
athletics classes that range from team sports to yoga and martial arts. In addition, we have
a full school community service program focused on eradicating 'homelessness.' Astonishingly,
our students and staff have performed over 1000 hours of community service
already this year!
Above all, we expect 100% of our students to gain acceptance, be prepared to succeed, and
graduate from college.
KIPP teachers:

• make achievement possible
About KIPP National
KIPP, the Knowledge Is Power Program, is a national network of free, open-enrollment,
college-preparatory public schools in under-resourced communities throughout the United
States. There are currently 57 locally-run KIPP schools in 17 states and Washington, DC,
which are serving over 14,000 students. Through high expectations for students and
staff,
world-class teachers and principals, more time in school, autonomy over budget and
curriculum, and a focus on results, KIPP schools have been widely recognized for putting
under-served students on the path to college. More than 80 percent of KIPP students are
low-income and more than 90 percent are African American or Hispanic/Latino. Nationally,
nearly 80 percent of KIPP alumni have matriculated to college.
Please become thoroughly familiar with www.kipp.org before applying. Candidates must have at least one year of full time teaching experience; those
experienced in working with under-served youth strongly preferred. To apply, send a cover
