Application Tips: Follow these Guidelines to Strengthen your Application
- Do your research. Before applying, read about KIPP and KIPP Bay Area Schools. Check out our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter. Your level of research is clearly evidenced in the quality of your essays and it is a significant factor in our decision to request a first round interview.
- Spend the time necessary to write thoughtful essays. These essays take the place of a cover letter; both should be formal, carefully drafted writing samples. Essays with word counts far below the limit will earn low scores.
- Provide specific information in the work experience fields. Rather than simply writing the title of your position (“First Grade Teacher”), provide detailed information about your role and responsibilities in that position, as you would in a standard resume. Feel free to use bullets. Highlight your accomplishments and expertise in education here.
- Timeline. You will typically hear within two weeks if you have advanced to a first round interview. First round interviews are an opportunity for the KIPP Bay Area Schools talent team to further determine whether your background and teaching experiences are a fit for available positions. Though the first round interview is conducted over the phone, you should treat it formally; schedule a time when you can talk in a private, quiet place and won’t likely be interrupted.
