As part of the KBAS commitment to ensure that its students matriculate to and graduate from college, KBAS continues to support students after they leave KIPP middle and high schools through the KIPP Through College (KTC) program. The KTC program aims to empower all KBAS alumni to continue using the scholarly habits, knowledge, and skills learned at KIPP schools as they continue onto high school, college, and beyond.
The mission of the KTC program is to ensure that KIPP middle school and high school alumni are supported to and through college, and that KIPP alumni develop into fulfilled adults leading self-sufficient, productive lives. The vision of the KTC program is to provide the support and services, either through KIPP or strategic partnerships, which lead to successful high school and college careers, and success in the competitive world beyond. This process begins with all KIPP students matriculating to their local KIPP high school or another high-performing college-preparatory high school. After high school graduation, KIPP alumni matriculate into and successfully complete college.
Components of the program include:
Services and programs provided by KTC to approximately 800 alumni include:
- College-focused communication with alumni and their high schools.
- High School scholarships awarded to alumni based and need and merit.
- A tri-annual newsletter with information about applying to college, scholarships, etc.
- Semi-annual events to help alumni maintain relationships with former teachers and other KIPPsters.
- An Alumni Advisory Council to provide student leadership in making the KTC program the most effective for our alumni.
- An Alumni Internship Program to provide alumni with real-world experience during a month-long paid summer internship working at KBAS’ Regional Support Office.
